Quick-witted hellion Lucianna Constantine has no doubt who was responsible for the death of her dear friend. And she will stop at nothing to expose his transgressions—and those of every despicable man in London. Lucianna has witnessed the cruelty of London’s beau monde her entire life…starting with her own father. So she is more than willing to singlehandedly take down every vile man that crosses her path.
Roderick Crofton, the Duke of Montrose, had his entire family fortune stolen when his father trusted the wrong men. After a scandalous article surfaces in the London Daily Gazette, written by the notorious Mayfair Confidential columnist, Roderick finds himself financially destitute, without a betrothed, and lacking the means to find the lords responsible for duping his sire. With little option left, Roderick has only one choice: find another wealthy heiress to wed. His quest brings him to Lady Lucianna Constantine, and soon, he can’t deny that he wants her for more than just her dowry.
However, Luci has secrets that could change everything. And when Roderick uncovers what those confidences entail, it could mean misfortune for all involved.
I enjoyed the first instalment of McKnight’s Undautned Debutantes series so I was keen to get into the second one when I had a chance. As these three debutantes are ahead of their times. An intriguing trio who are trying to trying to prove their friends’s death wasn’t an accident. And so far they had mix luck.
It been a few months since the begniing of the events and we saw Edith get in her own little strife when she tried to take things into her own hands encouraged by Luci. Luci may be as wild spirited as her friend Edith . She is the leader of pack. She was the one who was willing to make this a cause not just once off but for every vile man in London. Hence the column the trio have been carrying on secretly.
Well now it time for Luci to get her own little strife and it isn’t going to be that easy to get out of. She may be quicked witted . But Roderick is ready to pouch and take things into his own hands and find out truth about the column . As Luci has wrecked his hopes and reputation with a write up that isn’t exactly true. Roderick isn’t some vile man who willing to let things stand by. He going to claim Luci for what was taken away by the column
However what happens love enters the equation and the investigation the trio are conducting collides.
I love the idea of two investigations in this novel. Roderick wasn’t a bad sort even though Luci was trying hardest to pain a picture otherwise. I loved how it crossed over and we got to see how Luci came to the conclusion that drives this series about Tilda’s death . A lot was questioned and answered in this novel and I do love a good twist. Though I wished Roderick’s story was hashed out a little more then left to the side after he met Luci. As the men that his father trusted surely fit the picture of vile men and definitely would of piqued Luci’s interest.
It was a common thread they shared as Luci had her own issues with her father and it would have been interesting. However I didn’t despair too much as poor Luci is forced into a strife that isn’t going to be solved in a hurry.
The second Undaunted Debuantes was a treat and I can’t wait to see how Ophelia books concludes the series and see whether their quest is successful .
