THE ONE NIGHT STAND

By Elizabeth Hayley

synopsis

Gabriel Torres thought his life after Major League Baseball would be simple and quiet, or at least quieter. However, as he takes over running the exclusive Players Club, he finds himself continually embroiled in scandal and drama. Surely nothing, and no one could make his life any crazier…Right?

Rachel Adler is a blast from Gabe’s past who crashed back into his life with the finesse of a freight train. But she’s a welcome distraction. At least for a night.

Rachel has been working hard to become one of the top sports journalists in the country. She doesn’t have time for a long-term romance or irresistibly charming baseball players. A one-night-stand with the man who she knew would hit it out of the park was all she wanted.

But when she gets a tip that Gabe could have ties to one of the biggest sports stories in history, a story that could make her career, Rachel decides that maybe she has a little time for the sexy baseball player after all. As she gets in deeper with both her story and Gabe, Rachel begins to question who she is, what she wants, and what exactly she’s willing to sacrifice for her career.

Will the potential grand-slam romance be stopped short or will Rachel and Gabe be able to go the distance?

review

Second  romances are always a fun read for me so I was definitely waiting to read the final instalment of this series. Gabe always came across as the guy who was ready to have some good old fun and love to tease Ben and Jace . He was  never planning  to settle down and fall in love like the other players. So I had high hopes the he would fall bad and in a spectacular way.

However it wasn’t exactly. Rachel the woman in question, is nearly an old flame. They knew each other in college and Gabe was interested in her but nothing happened .So her timing is perfect as Gabe needs a distraction given the recent events.  So he does to do what every other player would do and make a move on the woman who got away in college.

Yet the one night distraction isn’t enough as we soon  see. There is a bond there , that   is deep and goes past the physical needs. Gabe and Rachel have a connection that can’t be made or forced. It’s one that built by passion  and it going  tricky as  they figure out things.

As Rachel is what you would considered the enemy. See she is a reporter and the reason why she in town, has to do with Gabe…….

Neverthless it isn’t easy with both parties having different stakes in the professional arena  with their relationship. It’s a tricky situation and whilst the events that happened in this story no way reflect how I would  want in a relationship. I had some sympathy for the characters. Gabe was trying to do something for the community that gave him an opportunity and I understood how hard it was for him.  He wasn’t protecting himself but countless of people and it weighted heavy on him.  He was misguided but he had the right intentions.  Rachel on the other hard was a bit hard to please .

I felt for Rachel as was stuck in  a hard place and the authors made her work for it. She had to realise that there was a great purpose here.  That everything wasn’t rested on one thing. She didn’t have to make her name on this one article she had been trying to find information for a long time.  She shouln’t used Gabe like she did and I  wish the regret was deeper.

As Gabe was mooping and in too deep by that time and you have to wonder if this a bit of role reversal and play up that roles don’t have to be stereotypical.

It was a nice way to end the series, and I love the touch at the end. Though I didn’t find myself enjoying the story as much as the last  book as that was too memorable.  I’m a sucker for second chances and there was a lot of them in this one.  Gabe and Rachel were great together but the spark wasn’t there like Ben and Ryan for me.

Elizabeth Hayley is actually “Elizabeth” and “Hayley,” two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. The product is Pieces of Perfect, their debut novel. They learned a ton about one another through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly (much to their husbands’ chagrin).

They live with their husbands and kids in a Philadelphia suburb. Thankfully, their children are still too young to read.

Elizabeth Hayley’s writing motto is best captured by the words of Patrick Dennis: “I always start with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind.”
