A psychopath more frightening than Hannibal Lecter.

He has planned well. He leads two lives. In one he’s just like anyone else. But in the other he is the caretaker of his family’s macabre museum.

Now the time has come to add to his collection. He is ready to feed his obsession, and he is on the hunt.

Jakey Frith and Clara Foyle have something in common. They have what he needs.

What begins is a terrifying cat-and-mouse game between the sinister collector, Jakey’s father and Etta Fitzroy, a troubled detective investigating a spate of abductions.

Set in London’s Blackheath, Rattle by Fiona Cummins explores the seam of darkness that runs through us all; the struggle between light and shadow, redemption and revenge.

It is a glimpse into the mind of a sinister psychopath. And it’s also a story about not giving up hope when it seems that all hope is already lost.

Rattle is definitely one of the creepiest thrillers that I have read  and honestly I wished I discovered this  debut last year like  others who did . As this one of the best thrillers easily I have read or watched .  As someone who likes to read widely , Rattle was a challenge as it confronted you in on a number of levels. Employing  the perfect balance of show and tell to deliver this creepy mystery thriller.

It’s an unique premise with an air of vulnerability  and heartache as the characters  deal with the fall out on their personal and professional lives .  Telling the tale  of  number of characters who are caught up in the mystery that threatens to exploded any moment. At the helm is Sergeant Fitzrozy who is the crucial link between the characters.  A woman who desperately want to help these families but  is struggling with the magnitude of  the case and her own family.

Tackling day by day we are taken into these characters lives as their lives are  slowly destroyed and control by this elusive Bone Collector who wreck havoc anyone in his path . He is the character that makes this book creepiest factor shoot through the roof.  He is clever , calculating and  determined  to have this thriller his way.  Leading the author up a merry path that has some surprising answers that will leave you wanting more .

Cummins tackles a mystery thriller that has great promise with the form of the criminal the mysterious Bone Collector   who drives this novel.  He what makes this book stand out.  The characters perspectives are  the helpless young to the tired and weary adults who struggle. It’s the mundane and   emotions verse the  exciting and  unknown  that will keep you captivated and want the next book. As the premise and the criminal mastermind is what makes things stand out in a genre where there is plenty of choice. .

It’s been under the radar I feel a bit though and I hope more people will discover the brilliant Cummins this year. As her sequel is around the corner and it going to be terrifying thriller like this one if I had to guess.
