The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around—and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he’s been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.
What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?
The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries—including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo’s dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?
Welcome to Weep.
Lani Taylor’s whimsical Strange the Dreamer is my first book from her despite being aware of her books for a while. Ever since I read the blurb , this was one of my most anticipated this year. I love the idea of the novel and it didn’t disappoint once I go into it and met Laslo the librarian and soon many other characters. A beautiful creative story, Stranger the Dreamer won’t be forgotten with it’s lyrical words and world building. Yet it is a story that I implore you to read as this unique and breath taking once it’s is in full galore and most of the pieces fall into place.
Lazlo Strange has dreamt of this mysterious mythic city called Weep. But as a humble junior librarian he has no hopes of finding this city, he has no means or the strength to do so . Until dreams come into reality and soon Laslo and we are whisked on this journey to discover the said city. A city where dreams come through but nightmares also exist . The home of Gods and seems very much more then is let on.
I loved the idea of this book . A mystic city that a careful crated expedition has been formed to search and find this Weep .However things aren’t as simple as they first appear we soon find out as we learn about the members of the expedition. Godslayer the hero who is determined to find this Weep and make his dream comes through it may come a cost. . Every one has a dream about this Weep yet no one has dreams like Laslo. However those dreams come with many questions and you are left wondering.
What is so special about this Weep , you have to read to find out . There are many layers to this story and each reveals only a little bit more to this world. However Taylor easily gets you hooked even before you know what is truly going on , Laslo is someone you can easily find yourself falling for and relate to . As once you delve deep and discover the truth behind the Weep and discover what exactly happened . It only draws questions what is truly going on and leaves you breathless.
Stranger the Dreamer is a piece of fiction that any young adult reader should love and enjoy with it’s complexity and challenging moments . There is a reason why this book is long and lengthy. Each character, place and moment is carefully crafted to bring questions and answers to this enchanting story that revolves around Weep and the mysteries that surround it. The biggest being the dreams of Laslo
Whilst I enjoyed the book, it does have one major problem with the borrowing from the Hindu religion and the Indian culture. I’m not Indian or Hindu but I have friends who do practise Hinduism and do have a understanding being from a similar culture. I would have rather Taylor made the characters that were blue skin for another reason and not borrowed Indian names and other things she did. As it took away from what was an enjoyable otherwise. I will still give it all the stars as I love the whimsical writing of Taylor and the storyline in general aside from this part. This book was unique and I can’t wait for the second book. You can help love Laslo and others yet despite some
